The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is also known as DofE. The Award is open to all 14-24 year old’s and equips young people for life regardless of their background, culture, physical ability, skills and interests. Doing the Award is a personal challenge and not a competition against others; it pushes young people to their personal limits and recognises their achievements.
Last weekend, we held our first major DofE event of term 2 for students from both our campuses. First they undertook a professional compass use and map reading orienteering course provided by MEOSC (Magnet Edge Orienteering Sport Club). Afterwards they learned some essential skills for camping and cooking. Our students then had to put these skills into practice by cooking their own dinner and camping in school. We rounded off the weekend with a hike in Bukit Gasing. Students had to haul their own backpacks, which was a useful experience for those who over packed!
After this DofE qualifying journey our students should be well prepared for their adventure in Fraser’s Hill later this year.
