We have been monitoring developments with the Coronavirus outbreak, and wish to reassure parents that currently elc has no confirmed cases of COVID-19 either directly or with anyone confirmed to have the virus. We have prepared an FAQ page on our website that we hope will help guide parents on our stand and provide options for you to learn more about COVID-19. In the meantime we will continue to develop good personal hygiene habits in our students to limit the spread of not only the coronavirus but also the flu and common cold. It is a difficult task, especially with Primary children as you can imagine, therefore we ask parents to reinforce good personal hygiene habits with their children on a daily basis. This will give us all a better chance of avoiding infection.
Moving forward the School would also like to enforce a 14-day self-quarantine period for staff and families who have travelled to:
• China
• Hong Kong
• Taiwan
• Macau
• South Korea
• Italy
• Iran
• Japan
Please note that this also should apply if you have received a visitor from these areas. We appreciate this is a difficult request, but we believe strong measures are needed to curtail the spread. Secondary students and parents of Primary students in quarantine should email the relevant Head of Key Stage in order to receive homework packs so that education can continue. In order to keep track of students and ensure that relevant homework packs are sent home we ask families who are under quarantine to complete this online form.
Finally, we ask that all families who have a child sitting the IGCSE exams remain in Malaysia during the holidays to reduce the chances of any complications leading to a delay in sitting the public exams. For some weeks now, we have sought advice from Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE) on whether they will be putting into place any contingency plans in light of the coronavirus outbreak. When we get any information from CAIE, we will share it will all families with a child sitting examinations this year.
Yours Sincerely,
Senior Management Committee
